Synthesis of Oxirane
/ Precursor of Dimethylsulfonium Methylide

The present reagent 1 produces dimethylsulfonium methylide 2 in the presence of strong base. This active ylide reacts with various kinds of carbonyl compounds to form oxiranes1). Similarly, the reaction of this reagent with Schiff's base gives aziridine1a).
