An efficient synthesis of 2-substituted-2-oxazolines using 1,3-diiodo-5,5’-dimethylhydantoin (DIH)
Takahashi and Togo have reported an efficient oxidative conversion of aldehydes into 2-substituted 2-oxazolines using 1,3-Diiodo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DIH). Furthermore, DIH showed a good reactivity for the preparation of chiral bis-2-oxazolines, which can be used as ligands in asymmetric synthesis, by the reaction of dialdehydes with (R)-(–)-2-phenylglycinol. DIH is a pale yellow solid that does not sublime like molecular iodine, and has low toxicity.
